New paper published: Energy use by the mountain pine beetle (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) for dispersal by flight

A new paper by Asha Wijeranthna, and Dr. Maya Evenden titled “Energy use by the mountain pine beetle (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) for dispersal by flight”, has been published in the journal of Physiological Entomology.

The paper examines the different levels of energy substrates, proteins, carbohydrates and lipids of male and female mountain pine beetles flown on flight mills.

New paper published: Testing for trade-offs between flight and reproduction in the mountain pine beetle on two pine hosts

A new paper was published by Asha Wijeranthna, Caroline Whitehouse, Dr. Heather Proctor, and Dr. Maya Evenden titled “Testing for trade-offs between flight and reproduction in the mountain pine beetle (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) on two pine (Pinaceae) hosts” in the Canadian Entomologist journal.

This paper examines the interaction of host tree and flight treatment on beetle body condition, revealing trade-offs between flight and reproduction in mountain pine beetle as measured at the level of the bolt.
