New paper published: Influence of Host Plant Species and Fertilization Regime on Larval Performance and Feeding Preference of the Redbacked Cutworm and the Pale Western Cutworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

A new paper by Ronald Batallas, and Dr. Maya Evenden titled “Influence of Host Plant Species and Fertilization Regime on Larval Performance and Feeding Preference of the Redbacked Cutworm and the Pale Western Cutworm (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)”, has been published in The Journal of Economic Entomology.

The paper evaluates the influence of annual crop species (canola, field peas, and spring wheat) and host fertilization on the larval performance and feeding preference of the redbacked cutworm and the pale western cutworm.

Congratulations to Maggie MacDonald

Congratulations to Maggie MacDonald for receiving a Student Travel Award to attend the Western Forum on Pest Management in Kelowna, BC.

This forum consists of a widely-based group of pest management experts and researches who meet annually to determine best practices for integrated pest control in Western Canada. The goal is to determine the integrated pest management methods that are cost-effective and do not adversely affect the health of individuals, livestock, wildlife or the environment.

End of Season BBQ!

We kicked off the end of the summer (almost) with a BBQ at Maya’s hosted by her and Steve. We celebrated Boyd Mori’s new position at the U of A and his family’s return to Edmonton, Kelsey Jones’ job offer in Winnipeg, the launch of Bugs 101 and the (almost) completion of the 2019 field season.
