My name is Dominic Donkor. I am a PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta under the supervision of Dr. Maya Evenden. My research focuses on pea-canola intercrop system on host selection and feeding behavior by specialist insect herbivores (pea leaf weevil and flea beetles). My work investigates the effects of herbivore feeding damage on pea-canola intercrop compared to their respective monocultures, employing both field and laboratory studies. In addition to evaluating pest behavior and feeding impacts, my research examines aboveground and belowground nutrient dynamics in pea-canola intercrops relative to pea or canola grown in monoculture. My work seeks to examine pea-canola intercrop as a viable agronomic strategy for insect pest management, with the goal of enhancing productivity and resilience in agricultural systems.
