BGSA Meeting 2015-09-03

Orientation BBQ– This event went well.

BGSA Halloween Party– We are working on getting the cost of the Dewey’s rental down a bit. It will likely be held on Friday October 30 (our preference) or Saturday October 31. Will check in with Stephen T. (who is organizing it).

Meetings with the RE Peter Planning Committee and Job Fair Committee. Michelle C. and Phil O. met with members of both committees to get things started for the year.

Winter Social- Michelle C. did some research on the cost of having a laser tag event. The best options were:

  1. Having a Private Event during daytime non-public hours- Flat rate of 3 hours (3 games) or 4 hours (4 games) for up to 32 people (extra $18 per person)
  2. Having a Late Nighter- 4hrs ($30/person)

Food: The laser tag venue could bring in Panago Pizza for us or we can bring our own food.

Michelle C. will send out a poll to gauage interest and get a formal quote on the above options. Doodle Poll questions will be:

Are you interested in laser tag?

How much would you be willing to pay?

What time of day would you prefer?

Would you prefer a week day or weekend?

We will look into getting a student group grant to cover part of the cost of the event.

Fall Fundraising BBQ- Erin C. and Christiane U. will book the patio area first and then the barbeque.

Committee positions- The BGSA has received several applications for the following Department committees and will vote on who to appoint to each committee: Adjunct Committee, Courses and Curriculum, Departmental Council, and Awards and Admissions Committee.

Report from the treasurers (Jessica H. and Jodi B.)– There is ~$2000 in the bank plus the contents of the two cashboxes.

Next meeting- Our next meeting will be in the last week of September, followed by the Annual General Meeting to approve the budget. Trish L. will send out an invitation for the Annual General Meeting to the Biological Sciences Graduate Student listserver.
