The majority of my career, before starting my master’s, was focused on wildlife behavior and disease management. Previously, I worked with several disease surveillance and management projects, including chronic wasting disease (CWD). As part of the Merrill Lab, my research is focused on engaging Alberta stakeholders through Structured Decision-Making (SDM) to understand stakeholder priorities when it comes to CWD management, develop alternative management actions for CWD that are supported for long-term implementation, and analyze the actions using predictive simulation tools to highlight which management actions align with stakeholder’s priorities. Additionally, I am evaluating the use of SDM as a tool to engage with the public and develop actions that Alberta Government wildlife management agencies would consider as potential additions to CWD management. My work is part of a large collaborative effort involving multidisciplinary research to develop tools and frameworks that provide transparent, scientifically informed support for adaptive CWD management in Alberta.
