Johanna Thalman, Research Assistant

I am organizing, managing, and conducting the field work (and report writing) for the CWD project. Specifically, Dr. Evelyn Merrill’s lab is examining how the spatial behavior and ecology of deer influence the transmission and spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in Eastern Alberta.  I have a master’s degree from Idaho State University where I studied the behavior and reproductive ecology (specifically sexual segregation) of the American bison. In addition, I have published a peer-reviewed article examining the effect of cohort on body and antler size of black-tailed deer. I have had the privilege to travel throughout the United States, working in different ecosystems, on various species, and with several organizations/agencies. I am thrilled to now be working on such important research, within a beautiful province.
