Biography:
I was born and raised in upstate New York. I moved to Middletown, CT for undergraduate studies at Wesleyan University, with a major of Molecular Biology & Biochemistry. I received by B.A. in 1990 and moved to Seattle to attend the University of Washington for graduate school in Biochemistry (Jonathan Cooper, supervisor). I finished my Ph.D. in 1996 and started a PDF at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in 1998 in Zebrafish Developmental Neurobiology (Cecilia Moens, supervisor). I accepted an Assistant Professor position in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta in 2003. I was appointed Canada Research Chair (tier 2) in vertebrate developmental genetics in September of 2003. In 2009, I was promoted to Associate Professor and my CRC position was renewed. In 2013, I was promoted to full professor. I am married and my wife, Lisa Prichard, and I have two dogs, August and Tiber.
