I am broadly interested in anthropogenic interactions with organisms and the environment. My current research focuses on the use of urban spaces by waterfowl. This use is associated with potential costs (e.g., contaminant exposure) and benefits (e.g., early breeding site arrival) which may depend on temporal patterns of use, among other factors. In cooperation with local industry, I aim to assess the condition of mallard ducks (Anas platyrhynchos) which utilize open water within Edmonton overwinter and year-round. Using primarily behavioural and physiological endpoints, I hope to quantify positive and negative consequences with the goal of making informed management decisions.
