My name is Zhanika, and I am currently doing an MSc in the Tierney lab. My thesis-based Master’s research investigates the pollution of waterways by synthetic fragrances and the unintended consequences that may arise. My project involves using zebrafish as model organisms to study embryonic developmental toxicology and the specific mechanisms of action related to synthetic fragrance exposure. Additionally, I am conducting novel research on how synthetic fragrances impact olfactory-mediated behaviors and olfactory imprinting in zebrafish. In short, I took my love for science and hatred of perfumes/scents and combined them! In my spare time, I love to cook, game, and hang with my friends and lab mates.
