She has worked on various parasite-host relationships including slugs and their associated nematode (Phasmarhabditis californica), as well as Drosophila nigraspiracula flies and their ectoparasitic mites (Macrocheles subbadius). Lisa’s enthusiasm toward entomology and parasites led her to pursue a PhD, in which she continues to investigate the non-consumptive effects (NCEs) of parasite-host interactions in the fly-mite system. More specifically, she looks at how host ontogeny influences the severity of NCEs, if parasite exposure causes carry-over effects in highly morphological species, and how complex landscapes influence NCEs.

Contact info: lmacleod@ualberta.ca

Publications

MacLeod, L.R. & Luong, L.T. 2024. Ecology of fear: ontogeny-mediated non-consumptive effects in a parasite–host system. Ecological Entomology, 1–8. https://doi.org/10.1111/een.13381

Lisa has been involved in our lab as a volunteer, technician, research project student, and now as a PhD student.
