{"id":59,"date":"2020-08-14T11:11:04","date_gmt":"2020-08-14T17:11:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/dino-lab\/?page_id=59"},"modified":"2026-03-20T15:56:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T21:56:19","slug":"programs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/dino-lab\/programs\/","title":{"rendered":"Program Affiliations"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 24pt\">WISEST<\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 14pt\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/services\/wisest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-456\" src=\"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/69\/2021\/06\/WISEST_logo-with-text.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The Dino Lab has been working with the WISEST (Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science, and Technology) program since 2018, and have hosted fifteen grade eleven students to date who have completed the program successfully.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 14pt\">Grade eleven girls interested in working in the Dino Lab are encouraged to consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/services\/wisest\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>WISEST website<\/strong><\/a> for further information.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 14pt\">In 2020, the Dino Lab also participated in the WISEST Choices conference. This program introduces grade six girls to the university, and allows them to participate in a full day of activities focused on science. More information about the Choices program can be found\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ualberta.ca\/services\/wisest\/choices-conference.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 18pt\"><strong>WISEST <\/strong><strong>Summer Research Program (SRP)<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'times new roman', times, serif;font-size: 14pt\">Participants in the Summer Research Program work as paid research assistants on a project in an area that is underrepresented for their gender for six weeks in July and August. Young women and gender-diverse students do research in the College of Natural and Applied Sciences. The Dino Lab typically takes two students each summer, and they get to choose from three proposed projects. These projects are typically a part of a graduate students (MSc or PhD) thesis work.
