{"id":1665,"date":"2024-08-20T19:35:19","date_gmt":"2024-08-20T19:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/boyce\/?p=1665"},"modified":"2024-12-12T03:52:16","modified_gmt":"2024-12-12T03:52:16","slug":"congratulations-to-julien-and-kathryn-for-receiving-nserc-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/boyce\/2024\/08\/20\/congratulations-to-julien-and-kathryn-for-receiving-nserc-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Julien and Kathryn for receiving NSERC scholarships!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At the beginning of this summer, we received noticed that MSc students <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/boyce\/julien-gullo-m-sc\/\">Julien Gullo<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/grad.biology.ualberta.ca\/boyce\/kathryn-vaughan\/\">Kathryn Vaughan<\/a> had received scholarships from NSERC! Additionally, Julien also received another scholarship \u2013 the prestigious Weston Northen Research Award!<\/p>\n<p>Julien has just completed his field season for his project researching the non-consumptive effects of hunting on Stone\u2019s sheep in Spatsizi Plateau Wilderness Park. As part of his fieldwork, he worked on fixing GPS collars on sheep as well as setting up camera traps to track sheep\/hunter movement throughout the park. He was successful in obtaining research grants from the Safari Club International- Northern Alberta Chapter, UAlberta Northern Scientific Training Program and the Weston Family Boreal Fellowship to support his research.<\/p>\n<p>Kathryn is a second year MSc student who is working towards wrapping up her thesis research. Her project involves investigating the effects of winter severity on white-tailed deer populations and trying to determine the presence of a hydra effect using hunter data from different wildlife management units in Alberta. Kathryn was also successful in obtaining research grants for her work such as the Minister\u2019s Special Licence- Raffles Fund Grant from the Alberta Conservation Association, the Minister\u2019s Special Licence Auction grant from the Alberta Professional Outfitter\u2019s Society and funding from the Safari Club International- Northern Alberta Chapter.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to both Julien and Kathryn for their achievements!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the beginning of this summer, we received noticed that MSc students Julien Gullo and Kathryn Vaughan had received scholarships from NSERC!
