Emma is a PhD student in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alberta working with Mark. She is motivated by interesting
ecological questions and (tries to) answer them using a combination of field and modelling approaches. Emma’s graduate research works towards better understanding the population dynamics and spatial ecology of spot prawns (Pandalus platyceros), in the coastal waters of British Columbia, Canada. Alongside collaborators, she will strive to address biological information gaps and place her work in the context of the prawn-by-trap fishery.
Emma graduated from Simon Fraser University (SFU) with a BSc Honours in Biological Sciences. At SFU, she worked in the Earth to Ocean research group puzzling over host-parasite interactions between juvenile salmon and sea lice. Since graduating, she has spent a great deal of time modelling the population dynamics of Pacific salmon in BC to inform status assessments and conservation decision-making.
